Guild of Master Craftsmen Membership
We've been keeping this a secret for a while now in anticipation of the official visit and it all being approved.... we are over the moon to announce we have been accepted into the Guild of Master Craftsmen. A real honour and accomplishment to be recognised by this exclusive guild. We join a list which includes, Aston Martin, Harrods, The Ritz, Fortnum & Mason and many more.
The earliest of these were 'frith' or 'peace' guilds - groups bonded together for mutual protection following the breakdown of the kins, which were groups related by blood ties. Merchant guilds - associations of international trades - were powerful in the 12th & 13th centuries, but lost their ascendency with the rise of the craft guilds. One of the guilds long established primary objectives is to preserve high standards. We are off course thrilled and so proud to have been approved through the selection process.
Back down to earth and the workshop...…These past few weeks have been so busy, we've had the pleasure of hosting so many courses in the workshop from, Travellers Bags & custom designs to Knife Sheaths. Paying these skills forward really is the greatest pleasure. We now have so many regular students who each time they visit are learning and tuning into their skills. Developing their confidence and knowledge in the world of leather craft all the time. One of the greatest pleasures is hearing students individual reasons and stories as to how they came to be in the studio today from family ties to the leather trade, a treasured item passed on through generations or just an escape from their very different everyday working life. We also learn all the time from these stories and shared experiences.
We will be introducing a new slipper workshop, available to book in house and at the venues we work closely with. One of the first bookings being the North Yorks Art Society, Scarborough. Keep an eye on Craft Courses and their website to book.
