Hawthorn tips and charcoal cheese

Hawthorn tips and charcoal cheese

We have just experienced the vernal equinox, which heralds the start of astronomical spring!

We have previously mentioned all the lovely things you can do with wild garlic, which is readily available at the moment, but do you know about the spring salad leaves of wild hawthorn? Pop a few in your cheese sandwiches with some chutney for a delicious nutty taste. Apparently, it is also very good for high blood pressure, heart disease and anxiety.

We have had a busy week; running a messenger bag workshop for North Yorks Art School,  a 1 2 1 workshop with Dave making a tool roll for a tool kit which begin his own leather-working journey. We are also renovating a special Dr’s briefcase for a good friend and have been commissioned to make a tote bag out of some left-over red leather that had used to furnish the interior of a morgan!

The photograph this week shows a leather journal cover, idea for keeping your field notes and jottings in also of some hawthorn leaves.

The cheese is a charcoal veined French cheese from the crumblycheese.co.uk alongside some hawthorn shoots.
