Spring travels
We are soon to be in April and this will be marked by the arrival of a very iconic flower, the daisy. They are a symbol of love and fertility, the daisy family or Asteraceae is the most widespread of all. It includes the sunflower, aster, artichoke, marigold, dahlia, sage and yarrow. You can pick as many daisies as you like as they like nothing better than to be mown short and they will be soon to reappear in a few days.
You are also likely to start spotting the arrival of the swallows in early April. Their distinguishing features are a dash of red at their throat, long tail streamers, metallic blue in colour and are usually seen gliding low over a meadow or dipping into a pond. They rarely venture into towns and prefer the countryside where they can find an abundance of flying insects.
Variety is certainly the spice of life for Cathy; she is running a slipper workshop for NYAS in Knaresborough, a journal workshop for Rural Arts in Thirsk and some 1 2 1 leather workshops in the Studio in Hebden Bridge. She has recently worked with the lovely Laura to make a Traveller’s bag. This compact bag, is ideal to take on a holiday, as can fit a passport and purse neatly inside and is worn securely across the body.
